How’s this for a Summer Concert Series topper: Aerosmith with Slash have been added to the most ambitious lineup at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys.
The latest show announced joins the Eagles and Lady Gaga where the highest-priced tickets are sold for more than $200. Bruno Mars went for $199.50.
“This is the most amazing lineup we’ve had in the history of the Summer Concert Series,” Harrah’s and Harveys Director of Entertainment John Packer told Tahoe Onstage. “I don’t think there’s been anything in Lake Tahoe like this series with such high-profile names in classic rock, country, pop and hard rock.
“It’s pretty unbelievable it all came together this soon. It’s early April and here we are pretty much set.”
Another Planet Entertainment and Harrah’s and Harveys on April 8 officially confirmed it will present “Let Rock Rule Tour: AEROSMITH with SLASH; First Time Ever in Tahoe” on Aug. 8. Presale tickets through fan clubs are available April 9-10. The general public can purchase them at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11 on www.Ticketmaster.com and www.APEConcerts.com.
Promoters don’t need to use all caps to draw attention to Aerosmith and Slash, who will bring hard rock and metal to a series traditionally filled with classic rock and country music, although Kiss, Alice Cooper and ZZ Top have appeared since Harrah’s and Harveys merged in 2002.
Aerosmith is the best-selling American rock band of all time. It still has the members who appeared on its self-titled 1973 debut album: singer Steven Tyler, guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitfore, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer. Slash, who wears a stove pipe hat onstage, will plays with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. He wrote iconic guitar riffs when he was with Guns N’ Roses and has his own line of 13 Gibson guitars.
The world undoubtedly will be watching when Lady Gaga makes a Saturday night appearance Aug. 2 as part of the“Lady Gaga’s Art Rave: The ARTPOP Ball Tour.”
Lady Gaga, 27, made a splash last month at South-by-Southwest when she was puked upon by artist Millie Brown in the name of art. Protesters say the scene glamorized bulimia.
And to think Joe Walsh used to be considered eccentric.
Walsh and the Eagles became one of the world’s most popular bands in the 1970s and ’80s with a soft country sound coming from a stage full of lead singers.
The first summer show announced was Bruno Mars, a 28-year-old singer with a tenor vocal range often compared to Michael Jackson. He performed at halftime at this year’s Super Bowl.
There will be country music on the first and last days of the celebrity golf tournament, the American Century Championship, played across the street from Harveys at Edgewood Tahoe. Tickets for the Sunday, July 20 Zac Brown Band concert sold out quickly, and Carrie Underwood, who sold out every one of her shows in 2013, performs Friday, July 18.
Six of the nine Summer Concert Series shows were sellouts in 2013, a year that broke the overall attendance mark. Packer said sales all of this year’s shows are moving briskly.
At least one more show has yet to be announced. It will be July 25.
Sammy and Hagar and Friends on Aug. 16 will be the only general admission show, which can hold as many as 9,000. Capacity for seated shows is from 6,700 to 7,000.
