Classic rap with Andre Nickatina and Lil 4Tay

Rappin' 4-Tay
Rappin’ 4-Tay for Tahoe: Friday’s Blu Nightclub show includes Andre Nickatina.

When Andre Nickatina last played in South Shore, it was three years ago for an all-ages show. His Blu Nightclub performance will likely have many of the same concertgoers who are now able to purchase an adult beverage.

The show is for people 21 and older, which is unusual for a Late Nite Productions show. However, Nickatina’s presence is not.

“I probably bring him onstage more frequently than any other artist,” Late Nite Billy Drewitz said. “I had three shows in March within 100 miles of each other and they all sold out. People come out of the woodwork for him.”

Nickatina will headline the show to be opened by Rappin’ 4Tay. Both artists are from San Francisco’s Fillmore District and have huge followings.

“Alongside Too Short, he is one of the oldest legends from the Bay Area,” Drewitz said about Rappin’ 4-Tay, who has recorded with 2Pac, Too Short, Snoop Dogg, Suga Free, Rick James, B-Legit and E-40 .

His is the father of artist Lil 4Tay who performs with Roach Gigz in the group B.I.G.

Those who have worked with Rappin’ 4Tay, press material say, are impressed with his ability to control a microphone and come up with fresh lyrics on the fly. His styles vary from single vocal tracks on a simple midi drum-beat to commanding the lead of a full live contemporary R&B band performing new original music and the classics.

Preferring to do his talking onstage, rapper Nickatina rarely gives interviews.

He changed his name from Dre Dog to Andre Nickatina in 1996, and transformed his career to a plateau that has allowed him to create and develop a new fan base with his original flow, distinct voice and lyrical explorations that few other MCs have displayed an ability to achieve.

“Every show he does sells out,” Drewitz said. “His lyrics are amazing and he is a good performer.”
