No pretender, Jackson Browne returns to Tahoe on Aug. 10

An Evening with Jackson Browne will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys.

Tickets — $39.50 to $99.50 – go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15. Browne last appeared at Lake Tahoe on a stormy night in 2015.

Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Browne was 3 when his family moved to Los Angeles. An active musician growing up, he joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band after graduating from high school in 1966, and the group recorded a number of his first songs.

Browne’s initial success came as a songwriter, with his early tunes recorded by a range of artists including Nitty Gritty, Gregg Allman, the Eagles, Joan Baez and others.

The 1970s saw Browne achieve mainstream radio and commercial success in his own right, with albums such as “Jackson Browne,” “For Everyman,” “Late for the Sky,” and “Running On Empty.”

He has been recording and touring steadily for the last 40 years, appearing and collaborating with a host of musicians, from Linda Ronstadt to David Lindley, and from Roy Orbison to Bruce Springsteen.

Browne, 70, is also an advocate and activist and has been working on behalf of a host of environmental and humanitarian causes since the 1970s, with anti-nuclear awareness a prominent agenda. He was arrested in 1981 in a protest of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant in Southern California. In 2008, he sued then presidential candidate John McCain for using his hit song “Running on Empty” during his campaign without permission. In 2016, he endorsed Bernie Sanders for president. The singer-songwriter performs and records regularly for a vast array of charities. In 2018 he was the first artist to receive the Gandhi Peace Award.

Browne was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004, and has won considerable recognition for his activism, including the John Steinbeck Award and multiple Harry Chapin Humanitarian Awards.

Previously, Harveys announced six other concerts for the popular summer series: fellow country star Tim McGraw on Friday, June 14, a cappela stars Pentatonix with Rachel Platten on Sunday, July 7,  country singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert on Thursday, July 18, The Steve Miller Band with Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives on Saturday, Aug. 24, country music’s Luke Bryan on Sunday, Aug. 25, and the Dave Matthews Band on Friday, Sept. 6.
