Summertime brings easy livin’ — free music on the beaches

Joy and Madness will be back on the beach on Sept. 3.

With another atmospheric river taking aim on Lake Tahoe this weekend — bringing more rain and snow — it’s hard to picture warm days on the beach with music wafting over gathered crowds as the sun sets. But look on the bright side: Summertime will arrive soon enough, and the livin’ will be easy with the lake filled to the rim.

On Tahoe’s north shore, band lineups have been announced for both Concerts at Commons Beach, held Sundays at Tahoe City, and for the Music on the Beach series held Fridays at Kings Beach. At South Lake Tahoe, where Live at Lakeview shows are held Thursdays from June 22 to Aug. 25th, a schedule has yet to be released. All three concert series are family friendly and free.

Concerts at Commons Beach celebrates its 13th season this year, opening on Sunday, June 25. Fan favorites include Groove Foundry, Dead Winter Carpenters, Poor Man’s Whiskey, Lebo and Friends, Mumbo Gumbo and Brothers Comatose.

“We are excited and proud to announce our 2017 lineup of local, regional and international performers. From bluegrass and Southern rock to afro-samba-funk and alternative rock, get ready for an incredible (free) 12-week concert series at Commons Beach in Tahoe City,” organizers said.

The Music on the Beach series enters its 11th year at Kings Beach, opening Friday, June 30, with The Sextones, a soul and funk band from Reno hot off the release of their new album “Moonlight Vision.” Other familiar bands include Sneaky Cretures, Achilles Wheel, Mojo Green and The Wrinkle.

Hosted by the North Tahoe Business Association, Music on the Beach has nine shows and will partner with Alibi Ale Works this year, featuring some locally crafted Tahoe brews.
