Rising star EmiSunshine was youngest performer to appear in the Crown Room

When the power popped during the Stagecoach Country Musical Festival this month, EmiSunshine knew right what to do. The 11-year-old prodigy hopped off the Mustang Stage at the Indio, California, show and into the crowd.

Armed with a ukulele and shaded by a cowgirl hat, she delivered two songs before power was restored, as smiling fans circled with their hands held high.

“You know, I was just doing what I learned to do early on,” Emi wrote on Facebook. “(Singer) Matt Woods told me he earns fans one at a time, that you have to play like you mean it even if there’s only one person in the crowd.

“I live by it now. So the power outage just meant I needed to go to my people and give them what they came for, 100 percent. I appreciate my fans. They allow me to do what I love.”

Emilie Sunshine Hamilton is a singer/songwriter from Madison, Tennessee, who caught the country’s attention in 2014 through social media. Her rendition of Jimmie Rodgers’ “Blue Yodel No. 6” went viral on YouTube with more than 1 million views.

The country/gospel songstress performed a special all-ages show at Crystal Bay Casino on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8. She was the youngest artist ever at the Crown Room.

“There were many young girls there with their mothers and that was very touching,” Tahoe Onstage photographer Clare Foster said. “She has a sweet voice and, wow, a young girl like that touring with her family, that’s amazing, really.”

EmiSunshine produced her first full-length CD, “Black Sunday ’35” in 2013 at age 9. In 2014, she released her first single, “Oh, Mary. Where is Your Baby?” followed a year later by “I am Able.” She performs about 150 shows a year across the country and has appeared on Marty Stuart’s Late Night Jam at Ryman Auditorium during the CMA Musical Festival.

Emilie also makes regular appearances on the Grand Ole Opry. Her new YouTube series “Americana Corner” earned her a feature story in Rolling Stone Country.
