STS9 hits Harrah’s Lake Tahoe: Lights, camera, action!

STS9Electronic instrumental icon Sound Tribe Sector 9 is landing in the South Shore Room at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe Thursday night, Jan. 28. The show is almost sold out.

STS9 hit the streets in 1998, forming in Atlanta, and is currently comprised of Hunter Brown (guitar, midi keyboard), Alana Rocklin (bass), David Phipps (keyboards), Zach Velmer (drums), and Jeffree Lerner (percussion, handsonic). Founding member David Murphy left the band in January 2014, with Rocklin joining the group in his stead.

The group covers a far-reaching sonic spectrum, incorporating a wide variety of musical styles into a foundation of electronic music and instrumental rock. STS9 has released numerous albums and remixes, starting with 1998’s “Interplanetary Escape Vehicle;” the group has released most of its albums to date on its own label, 1320 Records, which has also hosted artists like Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, the Glitch Mob, and more. STS9’s 2005 release “Artifact” reached the no. 12 spot on Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums chart, and the 2011 EP “When the Dust Settles” debuted at the no. 24 spot.

With an undeniably heavy touring presence, STS9 can be found all over the nation in any given year, and is known for selling out venues early and often. The list of festivals at which it has performed practically reads like a who’s who list of a wide array of major American music festivals, including Bonnaroo, Coachella, High Sierra, Jamcruise, Outside Lands, and Lollapalooza, to name just a few. The group has devoted followings in cities across the country, particularly in the California Bay Area. Several of the members now live in Santa Cruz when not on the road.

After the Stateline show, STS9 heads out on dates in California, Colorado, and across the Midwest. Looking ahead to festival season, the band has an early April appearance at Euphoria Music Festival in Austin, and an early May booking at Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, Illinois
