Aces rally for dramatic 10-9 win over Tacoma

Kevin Cron’s two-run double in the eighth inning led the Reno Aces to a 10-9 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers on Tuesday at Greater Nevada Field.

The red-hot Aces have won nine of their last 11 games.

The Aces tallied 14 hits including back-to-back homers from Rey Fuentes and Cesar Puello. Socrates Brito added two RBIs. Catcher Anthony Recker launched his 11th home run to left field. Cron finished with two doubles and two RBIs.

There were three lead changes in the game. The Aces trailed 9-6 entering the bottom of the eighth.

Shortstop Ildemaro Vargas, who has an 18-game hitting streak, missed the contest after being hit by a pitch on Monday. Kristopher Negron filled in.

Relief pitcher Barry Enright made his first appearance with the Aces since 2012. Enright pitched one inning of relief Tuesday, allowing six runs on five hits and two walks. His four-seam fastball reached 90 mph with an 83-mph slider.

Enright, 32, has started 159 games with seven different teams over his Triple-A career. Two of which include Toros de Tijuana and Tigres de Quintana Roo in the Mexican League. His 17 wins with Reno are fourth in Aces history.

Aces southpaw Anthony Vasquez pitched a solid five innings in a no-decision effort, giving up two earned runs on six hits. His record stands at 6-3 this season.

The Rainiers offensive assault was led by Adam Law, Andrew Aplin and Gordon Beckham, who each homered. Daniel Vogelbach added three hits and one RBI.

Tacoma right-hander Bryan Evans pitched 6.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts.

The Aces jumped out to a one-run lead in the second inning. Tacoma answered with runs in the third and fourth and piled on runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth. The Aces’ four-run eighth inning rally put them ahead for good.

Notes: Cron has hit safely in 20 of his last 22 games. Anthony Recker’s 11th homer this season is the most he’s had since 2010 with the Sacramento River Cats. … Second baseman Kevin Medrano and left field Puello each had a stolen base. The Aces have 53 stolen bases this season. Puello went 3-for-3 with a walk. Both teams combined for 28 hits.

On Deck: Reno (47-49) will face Tacoma (51-45) for the third game of the four-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Aces righty Jake Buchanan (6-7) will face Rainiers southpaw Ross Detwiler (2-2).
