After a few drought-plagued winter seasons, snowsporters at Lake Tahoe are cautiously optimistic about December’s snowpack and music lovers are downright excited about Strange Weather.

The second annual FNCTN Winter Music Series begins Thursday, Dec. 17, with Strange Weather, a rock group that has taken South Shore by storm since it was formed earlier this year. North Shore’s Thick Newton opens the show, which will be held at Lakeview Loft, located in Stateline on Highway 50 above Dart Beverage. Doors open at 9 p.m. Advance tickets are $10, otherwise the cover charge is $15.

The weekly series resumes Thursday, Jan. 14, and will continue until March 17.

DJ shows will be held on Fridays at the Xhale Lounge in the Casino Corridor. Hosted by Roger That House Parties, the first event is this Friday, Dec. 18, with Wooshey and Gurbtron. Doors open at 9 p.m. The cover charge is $10.

Roger That House Parties will present a show each Friday from Jan. 15 through April 1.

During the days when it snows 6 inches or more at lake level, admission will be half-off at the Thursday Lakeview Loft shows.

“The Lakeview Loft is a venue FNCTN has had their eye on for a while,” FNCTN Productions’ Leslie Schultz said in a press statement. “With its Tahoe cabin vibe, Stateline location, and incredible sound system, we couldn’t be more excited to debut this venue all winter long.”

FNCTN was founded by the vowel-rejecting triumvirate of Schultz, Mike Peron, and Nick Rogers, aka Roger That. It presented summer concerts at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Strange Weather is a ’70s-rock inspired quartet that plays originals and covers by such bands as Led Zeppelin, Rick Derringer and Free. It toured Southern California for the first time in October. The band had been scheduled to open for Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts on Dec. 18 in Reno’s Psychedelic Ballroom. Weiland died early this month.
