Return of the Red Eye: Slightly Stoopid back this summer

Slightly Stoopid will be back in Tahoe onstage on July 2.

This summer Lake Tahoe will experience “The Return of the Red Eye.”

Slightly Stoopid Return of the Red EyeCalifornia reggae band Slightly Stoopid announced its summer tour Tuesday, which includes a stop on July 2 at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys for the second-straight year.

“The Return of the Red Eye” includes Soja, The Grouch, Eligh and Zion I.

The concert will be on a Saturday of Lake Tahoe’s busiest weekend of the year.

“It will be a fun weekend,” John Packer, a spokesman for Harveys and Harrah’s, said. “This is an example of how varied our concert series is with different genres. This is the third time here for Slightly Stoopid.”

It is the fourth show announced for the Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series. Peter Gabriel and Sting will appear Friday, July 15, a show that sold out in hours, and Australian country artist Keith Urban will be here Wednesday, July 27, and Friday, July 29.

The next announcement might be on Friday, Packer said.

“There are a couple of shows we’ve confirmed but haven’t announced yet,” he said. “I won’t be coy. No hints. You’ve probably heard of the acts.”

Slightly Stoopid tickets will be $37.50, plus live entertainment taxes. It will be a general admission show. Presale starts Wednesday, and Tickemaster and Another Planet Productions will begin sales to the public at 10 a.m. on Friday.

On Aug. 13, 2015, Slightly Stoopid, the Dirty Heads and Stick Figure drew a crowd of about 5,000. The venue fits 7,000, so considering the holiday, the show is likely to sell out.

Summer Outdoor Concert Series notebook: Saxophonist Karl Denson often plays with Slightly Stoopid, which he did at the 2014 Lake Tahoe Reggae Festival. Last year, he also played with the Rolling Stones. … In between Keith Urban’s two Tahoe shows, his “RipCORD” tour will stop at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. All of the sound lighting equipment will be disassembled after Wednesday’s Tahoe show and put back up again before the one here on Friday … This year will be the 13th “modern-day” season for the summer concert series, which began after Harveys and Harrah’s Lake Tahoe merged. … Last year, there were 11 concerts, including Elton John, Aerosmith and Imagine Dragons. … The Gabriel-Sting tour is called “Rock Paper Scissors.” In a promotion video, Gabriel explained the name: “Rock, we make some music. Paper, they made an offer we couldn’t refuse. And (Scissors) after we do the business, we cut away.” … The American Century Championship, the annual celebrity golf tournament across the street from Harveys at Edgewood Tahoe, will be July 22-24. There are typically two outdoor shows during the tourney.
