Lenny Kravitz holds the record for most consecutive Grammy Awards for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance: Four. Plenty of people will be shouting “Fore!” when the rock star visits Lake Tahoe this summer.
Kravitz will perform at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys on Friday, July 14, the date of the opening round of the American Century Championship. The celebrity golf tournament has included some truly awful golfers over the years such as Charles Barkley, Kevin Nealon, Chris Webber, Jason Kidd and Lou Holtz, who shouted “Fore!” to alert spectators to incoming erratic drives.
The 8 p.m. night concert across the street from Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course will open with Oregon blues singer ZZ Ward. Kravitz plays every style of music except country: rock, pop, psychedelia, metal, blues, soul, R&B, jazz and folk. He also plays every instrument on his records, has acted in a number of movies and designs furniture. It is unknown if the versatile Kravitz golfs, too.
Harrah’s and Harveys announced the show on Tuesday afternoon. Presale tickets — $55 to $128 — plus fees start March 22. General ticket sales begin March 24 at the Ticketmaster and Another Planet Entertainment outlets. It is the only concert listed on Kravitz’s website.
Last summer, Kravitz toured with Guns N’ Roses. His most recent album is 2014’s “Strut.” He is flamboyant performer and with flying dreadlocks and well-known songs such as “Let Love Rule,” “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” “Super Love,” “Fly Away,” “Believe” and “American Woman.”
One of his most rocking songs, ironically, is “Rock and Roll is Dead.” Prince responded with the song “Rock & Roll is Alive (And It Lives in Minneapolis).”
Kravitz is the son of Roxie Roker, who was half of the first interracial couple to appear on a sit-com television program, “The Jeffersons.” Kravitz himself is biracial. He was born Jewish and has embraced Christianity.
Third Eye Blind will on the final day of the celebrity golf tourney, Sunday, July 16.
Other shows announced for the series are Paul Simon on June 25, reggae rockers Rebelution, along with Nahko and Medicine for the People, HIRIE and Collie Buddz on Friday, June 30, Sammy Hagar and the Circle on July 7, Train, Natasha Bedingfield and O.A.R on Sunday, July, 9; surf rocker Jack Johnson with Animal Liberation Orchestra on Friday, July 28, and Slightly Stoopid, Iration, J Boog and The Movement on Friday, Aug. 4.
