Larger-than-life artwork is popping up throughout downtown for this weekend’s Reno Sculpture Festival, and larger-than-life music will be floating through the Cargo Concert Hall on Friday and Saturday nights as part of the celebration.

Jenes Carter and Mojo Green will perform at Cargo.

More than 30 sculptures will be installed in a 10-block area for that annual festival that draws some 30,000 people to the core of the Biggest Little City. Local vendors will line the streets, along with food trucks, street performers, live painters and muralists. There will be kids activities and places to kick back in wellness and activities gardens.

Sunset will usher in two nights of concerts at Cargo. On Friday at 7 p.m., folks will be treated to an electronic-music potpourri in a show headlined by Big Wild and supported by SOOHAN, Joyzu and Ghost and Shadows. Tickets to the all-ages show of $23.95, or $28.66 on the day of show, including tax and fees.

Late-night Saturday, things will get funky at Cargo Concert Hall, with Reno’s own Mojo Green taking the stage at 10 p.m., followed by Vokab Company and the Monophonics. This show is for fans 18 or older, with tickets costing $14.53, or $20.42 at the door, including tax and fees.

Big Wild’s Jackson notes: “It’s a big world out there, kid… Stemming from a relentless desire to create something new, Big Wild’s sound taps into the natural curiosity we all share by exploring beyond conventional boundaries in music. Oh yea, he also likes to make you dance.”

Saturday’s headliners, the Monophonics, hail from San Francisco and serve up hefty portions of psychedelic soul: “Touching on Northern soul, doo-wap, rock and roll, psych pop and cinematic music, the Monophonics show off their their diversity while remaining true to their roots.”

The Reno Sculpture Festival runs from Friday, May 12, to Sunday, May 14.

All told, more than 60 bands will perform at downtown locations.
