They say there’s always magic in the air on Broadway – and in the Valhalla Boathouse Theatre.

A musical revue, “Love at the Lake,” will be presented over two weekends at the Tallac Historic Site as part of the Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival on the shores of South Lake Tahoe.

“Love at the Lake” will feature sets with the different stages of love: attraction, desire, crisis and commitment.

Singer Sharon Kerrigan

“There are some classic songs as well as some modern ones,” music director Mark D. Williams said. “It’s a good mix of things that are lighter and funnier and things that are more serious.”

Broadway tunes include “Seasons of Love” from “Rent,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “Purple Summer” from “Spring Awakening,” Cole Porter’s “I Hate Men” from “Kiss Me, Kate” and “Burn” from “Hamilton.”

A professor at Lake Tahoe Community College, Williams has directed many Boathouse Theatre productions but this is the first since 2012.

A three-piece band is comprised of Sue Kinney Whitehouse on piano, Brian Bartlett on bass and Bill Rogers on drums. The singers are Chris Taylor, Rich Sargent, Joanie SanAgustin, Sharon Kerrigan, Matthew Ault, Tom Callahan and Andrea Rogers.

Six of the seven “Love at the Lake” 90-minute performances start at 7:30 p.m., so audience members will exit into the Lake Tahoe’s spectacular gloaming just after sunset. There is a 1 p.m. matinee on Sunday, July 7.
