It’s where the locals hang out.

The setting is an alpine European village, but it’s actually The Village at Squaw Valley. The weather is picture perfect this Memorial Day weekend, as the Made in Tahoe Festival returns to Olympic Valley (at the apropros address of 1960 Squaw Valley Road) to celebrate all things local. The popular festival runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 27-28.

Truckee Coburn station hit the Main Stage at 11 a.m. greeting festivalgoers and skiers, many wearing shorts and tank tops as they headed out for sunny spring skiing.

“It’s a community gathering to kick off the Tahoe-Truckee summer. It will be fantastic, with non-stop music and plenty of fun,” said Tahoe Onstage editor Tim Parsons, who will be at The Village with other staffers to say hello and to cover the event.

The festival features live music and performances on three stages, as well as more than 100 local vendors offering food, drink and artisan goods that are made or inspired in the Lake Tahoe Basin and Truckee areas. Organizers send out this invite to locals and visitors alike: “Discover, explore and experience our special community rich with talented creators!”

Coburn Station, named for the original gathering spot and watering hole for the mountain community that was to become Truckee, will get the music rolling from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Main Stage. It delivers roots-rock music based in blues and folk. Last year, Coburn Station released its debut 11-track album, “Coming Home.” Band members are Dan McAlister (guitar, vocals), Conor McAlindin (drums, vocals), Thomas Page (bass, vocals) and Ryan Taylor (keyboard, synthesizer.)

Another Truckee band, Forget the Roses, takes over the Main Stage from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday with some sweet Americana roots-rock music. The rhythm section players, bassist Cody Brouwers and drummer Gabe Carlson, have been performing together since they were sixth graders at Sierra Mountain Middle School. The band was started by guitarists Morgan Hargrave and Todd Wees.

Hargrave also is a member of the country band Everyday Outlaw, which will perform from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday on the First Street Stage. Other members are Jake Zender (guitar, vocals), Mark Henasey (bass), Rory Koff (drums) and Jim Park (pedal steel). From 3:30 to 5 p.m. on the First Street Stage, Eric Matlock (keyboard and vocal-box specialist for Reno’s Jelly Bread) will entertain.

Peter Joseph Burtt and the Kingtide will close out Saturday’s entertainment from 5 to 7 p.m. on the Main Stage. The group recently returned from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, arguably the greatest annual music event in the country. It opened twice for the superjam band Dragon Smoke and Burtt also played with Eric Lindell’s band.

On Sunday, Richard Blair’s Streets of Truckee will get things going from 11 am to 12:30 p.m. on the Main Stage. Blair, an acoustic guitarist, provides a history of Truckee through his words and music. South Lake Tahoe’s Wesley Orsolic Band will play on the Main Stage from 1 to 2:30 p.m. A native of Croatia, Orsolic just released the CD “Front Seats” with bandmates Liz Broscoe (drums), Reuben Thompson (bass) and Lowell Wilson (keyboards).

Matty Reardon and the Red River Revival will close out Sunday’s Main Stage entertainment from 3 to 5 p.m., while Calling Ophelia will serve up Americana on the First Street Stage from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Truckee’s Calling Ophellia features Brooke Chabot on lead vocals and guitar, Dave Shaw on accordion, Dave Tranquilla on drums, Liz Tucker on double bass, and Matt Tucker on mandolin and banjo.
