Audiences are loving Valhalla Tahoe’s summer production of the Tony-award winning musical comedy, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.”
Written by Rachel Sheinkin and conceived by Rebecca Feldman, the comedy centers on six “tweens” competing to win the trophy and advance to the national spelling bee. The quirky, yet charming students candidly disclose hilarious and touching stories from their home lives while learning that winning isn’t everything. With a lively opening number, the actors and set instantly take you back to the sense of wonder (and worries) of being a kid again. And four audience guest spellers add to the riotous ride.
The show has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor and Valhalla Tahoe’s cast does not disappoint. The play showcases Tahoe’s local talent and each actor will win your heart. From the six spellers to the three equally unusual grown-ups, the entire ensemble creates an unforgettable experience with comedic genius and incredible vocal talent.
Produced by Valhalla Tahoe, guests are treated to an evening of fun right on the shores of Lake Tahoe. The Boathouse Theatre provides the perfect setting and guests often enjoy intermission and a glass of wine on the pier or a picnic on the Grand Lawn. A fast-paced, wildly funny comedy, the play is considered PG-13 because it has a small amount of language and adult subject matter. One of the musical numbers is slightly bawdy and deals with the inescapable fact that one of the young spelling see contestants is facing the onset of puberty, with some embarrassing consequences.
