Photographer’s notebook: The Absynth Quintet from Humboldt County graced the stage of the Heavenly Village Summer Concert Series on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. The stage was parked on the corner Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Heavenly Village Way in front of the new Azul Latin Kitchen. What I thought was going to be a straight-up bluegrass band was anything but. Its genre is described as high-energy gypsy jamgrass, or as drummer-percussionist Tofu Mike would say “ProGrassive.” However you want to describe it, the Absynth Quintet did please the patrons at the restaurants and shops and the passersbys. — Kurt E.
