Soft White Sixties, Vokab Kompany Live at Grandview; Hot Buttered Rum April 5

The snow gods must love live music.

Ever since Sierra-at-Tahoe’s Live at Grandview concert, it’s been snowing.

The Soft White Sixties and Vokab Kompany played a doubleheader March 22 at the first of three Live at Grandview events. The accompanying slideshow is provided by Brian Walker Photography and Tahoe Magic Co.

Vokab Kompany is a livetronica and hip-hop band from San Diego whose founders met when they both lived at South Lake Tahoe. The band often returns to the lake, where is has a large fan base. The Soft White Sixties are a rapidly ascending San Francisco rock and pop band which has played the last two South-by-Southwest Festivals in Austin, Texas.

The Saturday series continues April 5 with Hot Buttered Rum and the Creak and concludes April 12 with Midi Matilda and Tracorum.

Hot Buttered Rum follows its 2012 “Live at Sierra” album with a new studio release this spring. The progressive bluegrass band is from the Bay Area but it came up with its name during a camping excursion in the Sierra Nevada. It’s album release party is set for May 30 at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, Phil Lesh’s coveted performance and studio venue. The new record was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos.

Creak is a more traditional bluegrass band with no drums. It has grown from its busking roots in the Bay Area and has share a stage with Brothers Comatose.
