Rascal Flatts puts in the miles every year and the band lately always includes Lake Tahoe.
A year ago, the modern country band from Nashville timed its Tahoe visit with the American Century celebrity golf tournament so guitarist Joe Don Rooney and bassist Jay DeMarcus could compete. They both played again this July before returning to the stage Aug. 24 when it rocked a crowd of about 4,000 at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys.

Celebrating its ninth studio album, “Rewind,” the band, led by founders Rooney, DeMarcus and singer Gary LeVox entertained the crowd, a mixture of older folks and many 20-something, largely female concertgoers. Fans sang along to the numerous Rascal Flatts hits.

Rooney flicked picks he had attached to his guitar throughout the performance. One pick was spun out all the way to the 17th row. He must be a good disc golfer, too.

Sheryl Crow opened with a 10-song, 55-minute set.
She said she soaked up the sun along with a couple of cocktails earlier in the day, playing upon a jet ski, standup paddle board and a four-man paddle boat.
“We’re at altitude, aren’t we?” she told the audience. “I feel like I’ve just run a marathon.”

After a slow start, she picked up the pace and woke up the crowd with an upbeat blues upon which she played harmonica, “Best of Times.” The fans stood and cheered, and the country-themed doubleheader concert was on.
