Scalding hot: ‘Ignite’ wraps Harveys Cabaret run Saturday

Tahoe Onstage
Ignite is the fiery new show in Harveys Cabaret every Saturday night this winter.

The fuse is lit. Ignite, an adult “cabaresque” revue, opened a winterlong residency on Jan. 26 at Harveys Lake Tahoe Cabaret showroom.

Each Saturday night through April 27, the scalding hot show offers a tasty blend of burlesque, circus, music and comedy.

“The cast members are all exquisitely unique,” producer Madeline Feldman said. “Each has their own flavor. When you put them all together, you get a really spicy, delightful stir fry.”

Ignite is Feldman’s 21st production. Last winter, she produced Electrify at the Hard Rock Hotel next door to Harveys and 100 percent of the shows were sellouts. She also produced Essence at Harrah’s Reno, which was the No. 1 rated show on Yelp in the Biggest Little City.

She has assembled an eight-member cast, which includes two singers.

The always smiling Jazmayn Everett will be appearing in her first show. Feldman discovered her is a dance class. She recognized Everett possesses the “it” factor.

“In Reno-Tahoe you very rarely get the opportunity to see a performer you are not familiar with,” Feldman said. “There was a confidence and a unique style and flavor about her. So I offered her a job on the spot, and I was right. She’s a rock star.”

Sarah Sperber is on the opposite side of the coin. A week before the show debuted, she was asked if she is nervous.

“I’m not,” she said. “I’ve been doing this my whole life.”

The aerialist so confident, she could do her role blindfolded, which she does during one routine.

“My mother was a producer, so I grew up in venues,” she said. “I saw an aerialist about 10 years ago and said, ‘Wow, I need to devote my life to this.’”

Kristan Vaughan is one of the two singer-hosts. She might be better known the lead singer for the Reno rock ‘n’ roll band Jakes Garage’s 5.0.

During the first rehearsal last week in the 200-seat Cabaret showroom, Vaughan sang “Burning Love” a cappella, and Lord have mercy, she has a captivating voice.

“This allows me to be someone else for an hour and a half,” she said. “The show is upbeat and sensual. It brings both worlds together.”

Feldman wasn’t looking for a man, but she found Reuben Roberts at the University of Nevada music department. Roberts also will be making his production debut. He is the singer-cohost.

“Like Jaz, I saw something in him,” Feldman said. “The show was originally written for one singer.”

Although she’s only 27 years old, Feldman has a penchant for making adjustments to shows. And she’s written many of them.

“I started my company (Prestige Productions) six years ago and was given an opportunity at the Peppermill (in Reno) to build a new show every month. It was like a laboratory to learn and grow at a fast pace.

Feldman, who was primarily a dancer, aspired to have a different career path but wanted to make a check on her bucket list when she had an opportunity to produce a show at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

“Almost by accident, I fell in love with the whole process,” she said. “I thrive in, and am happier, being behind the scenes rather than in the spotlight.”

When Feldman was growing up at Lake Tahoe, Stateline’s Casino Corridor was filled with long-running productions. She would like to see than happen again.

Tickets are available through Ticketmaster, bit.ly/ignitetahoe, or at the Harrah’s and Harveys Box Offices. Tickets are $26.83 or $36 for VIP seating, plus taxes and fees.  Show time is 10 p.m.  Must be 21+ years of age.  The ticket stub is good for complimentary admission to PEEK Nightclub at Harrah’s prior to midnight the same night.
