Decade of the doggy: Mutt Strut fundraiser is Sunday in South Lake Tahoe

Every dog gets its day. In Lake Tahoe, they get a decade.

The Animal Coalition of Tahoe’s 10th annual Mutt Strut Poker Run is Sunday, Oct. 12.

The family event in which dogs can exercise their two-legged companions who will simutaneously play poker and perhaps win some prizes!

The Mutt Strut will begin at Lakeview Commons (intersection of Lake Tahoe Blvd. and Lakeview Ave.) from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m.  Participants will pick playing cards at stops along a 1.6 mile route, hoping for the best poker hands. Prizes will be awarded to those with the best hands. It’s not a race, it’s just a fun way to raise money for ACT — the Animal Coalition of Tahoe. All funds raised benefit ACT’s spay-neuter program for local residents, plus 10 percent of funds are donated to the El Dorado County animal shelter in Meyers.

The fun continues after the walk, with a party at Lakeview Commons featuring music, giveaways, raffle drawings, and contests such as best trick, hot dog eating and musical sit.

Poker hands may be purchased in advance for $20 for three hands, or three hands and a T-shirt for $30, at Alpine Animal Hospital (921 Emerald Bay Road) or Bonanza Boot and Leather (the new Chateau center at Stateline).  Day of event, tickets are $10 each, $25 for three hands. T-shirts are $12.

Press materials say,  … “and no poker experience is needed.” However,  that is no caveat because  ACT is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, all-volunteer corporation with the mission of reducing the number of unwanted dogs and cats in our area  – “We work toward that mission by sponsoring our low-cost spay-neuter program.
