They’re metal to the core, and they’re coming from points across the country to rattle the Cargo Concert Hall tonight in downtown Reno.
Atreyu, metalcore monsters from Orange County, California, will be joined by Islander and Sworn In at an 8 p.m. show. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the all-ages performance and minors must be accompanied by someone 25 or older. Advance tickets are $20.
Atreyu was formed in 1998 and features vocalist Alex Varkatzas, lead guitarist Dan Jacobs, rhythm guitarist Travis Miguel, bassist Porter McKnight and drummer Brandon Saller. Originally named Retribution, the band changed its name to Atreyu, a character in the fanatasy novel “The Neverending Story,” to reflect a change in band members and musical stylings.
Atreyu’s latest album, “Long Live,” was released in 2015. The band has five previous studio albums and is known for its rafter-rocking live concerts. Atreyu is in the midst of its Deathgrip on Yesterday 10-year Anniversary Tour.
Islander hails from Greenville, South Carolina, with vocalist Mikey Carvajal, guitarist J.R. Bareis, bassist Ezekial Vasquez and drummer Arin IIejay. Its CD “Violence and Destruction” is available now.
A fan in Chico was impressed this week, describing “badass energy, with crowd surfing and standing on the front rail. It was cool to help hold singer up and later get kneed to the teeth by him on accident. Hella fun show.”
Sworn In is a metalcore band from Grayslake, Illinois. Formed in 2011, it has Tyler Dennen on vocals, Eugene Kamlyuk on guitar, Derek Bolman on bass and Chris George on drums. Sworn In is touring in support of its newest album, “The Lovers / The Devil.”
Get there early and settle in — the stage will be shaking tonight at the Cargo Concert Hall.
