Get some hip in your hop with throwback holiday party

The V101 Holiday Jam is Saturday, Dec. 7, in Sacramento.

While the cold winter wonderland of the Sierra begins to fall around us in December, one thing Tahoe/Reno locals may miss during the holiday season is a big city radio festival concert..

So those looking for a break from the bone-tingling cold slowly settling in over our mountain home, it may be worth putting the chill on hold and heading down to Sacramento to what will no doubt be a dance party of massive flashback proportions.

Imagine your favorite early 2000s throwback jams and now what you have is the lineup for this year’s V101 Holiday Jam Concert. Put on by V101.1 FM, Sacramento’s Throwback hip hop and R&B radio station, this year’s annual Holiday Jam will feature a night of performances by Ludacris, DMX, Ashanti, Ja Rule and one of the founders of Digital Underground.

Let’s throw out a few of the songs these performers are responsible for…

Ashanti is one of the headliners.

Ashanti is the voice behind perennial throwback R&B hits “Foolish,” “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby)” and “Happy.”

Recent recurring documentary star Ja Rule had a few hits predating his Netflix celebrity days that included “Put It On Me,” “I’m Real,” “Between Me & You” and trio of hits originally recorded with Ashanti, “Always On Time” “What’s Luv?” and “Mesmerize,”, so don’t be surprised to see a duet onstage.

DMX spits the go hard anthems “Party Up,” “X Gon’ Give It To Ya” and “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem.”

And Ludacris brings the ATL bass heavy booty shaking hits – “How Low,”, “Money Maker” “Stand Up,” “Move Bitch,”, “Area Codes” and “Roll Out (My Business).”

In short, just plug these artists into your playlist and the nostalgic danceability in undeniable. This V101 Holiday Jam concert is a guaranteed old-school dance party and makes the perfect cure to these shorter days and colder nights up here. It all happens at Sacramento’s Golden1 Center Arena on Saturday, Dec. 7.
