Visions of greatness: Nevada hoops signs 5 from 2020 class

First-year University of Nevada head men’s basketball coach Steve Alford has recruited five high school seniors to play for the Wolf Pack in 2020-21. Alem Huseinovic, DeAndre Henry, Tre Coleman, Daniel Foster and Je’Lani Clark have signed National Letters of Intent to play at Nevada.

“This class fills a lot of future needs for our program,” Alford said.  “As we build our culture each of these young men are exactly what we look for; interested in their education, unselfish approach to winning and a commitment to be better daily.”

Nevada, 2-1, finishes a four-game homestand at 8 p.m. Saturday in Lawlor Events Center when it plays Southern California of the Pac-12 Conference.

  • The 6-3, 180-pound Clark is from Oakland, and attends Archbishop Riordan High School. As a junior he averaged 15.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and two steals. From the field he shot 51 percent and 35 percent from behind the arc last season.  He has averaged double figures each of his three seasons of high school increasing from 10.8 as a freshman to 15.2 his sophomore season and 15.5 as a junior.  In 82 career games at ARHS he is averaging 13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.
    Alford on Je’Lani Clark: “Je’Lani is a high energy, high motor player.  He has a very high basketball IQ and is committed to being a great player.  He has the ability to lead a team and program.”
  • Henry a 6-7, 225-point forward averaged a double-double at Mountain Point High School in Phoenix where he scored 12.2 points and grabbed 10.2 rebounds per game as a junior.  Henry blocked 1.5 shots and shot 62 percent from the field and 72 percent at the free throw line.  He is playing his senior season at Phoenix Prep.
    Alford on Dre Henry: “Dre has a tremendous ceiling as a basketball player.  He is a strong and athletic player who loves to compete at both ends of the floor.  He will improve daily due to how hard he works.
  • Foster is a 6-6, 185-point guard from Melbourne, Australia but plays Golden State Preparatory School in Napa, Calif.  He has represented Australia in the FIBA 3×3 U18 Asia Cup and earned all-tournament honors.  Foster was a member of the Victoria State Championship team the Hume City Broncos and was nominated as the Youth Player of the Year.  At the Australian Under 20 National Tournament he represented Victoria and was named to the all-state team.  He averaged 4.9 assists and 3.6 steals per game in the tournament.
    Alford on Daniel Foster: “Daniel is a versatile guard who can play a variety of positions.  A tough minded competitor who knows how to play the game.  We’ve had tremendous success with Australian born players.”
  • Huseinovic is a 6-3, 180-pound shooting guard who helped Chaparral High School in Phoenix to the 6A Arizona state championship game last season.  In the state championship game he scored 18 points.  Internationally he played for Bosnia & Herzegovina.  He averaged 14.2 points and 1.9 rebounds per game as a junior at CHS.  He is attending Phoenix Prep this season.
    Alford on Alem Huseinovic: “Alem is a tough, heady shooting guard.  He really knows how to create and make shots. A fierce competitor who really knows how to play.”
  • Coleman is a 6-7, 185-pound small forward who plays for Jeffersonville High School in Jeffersonville, Ind.  As a junior he averaged 16 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.4 steals and 2.1 blocks per game. From the field he shot 59 percent, 38 percent from behind the arc and 65 percent at the free throw line. The Indianapolis Star ranked him as the fourth best recruit in the state of Indiana.
    Alford on Tre Coleman:  “Tre is a big athletic wing who can defend all over the court.  He gives us a ton of versatility. A high level athlete who will bring energy on both sides of the ball.”
